December and Onward to 2017

A month ago today, I was about to get my hair done for our wedding! And, at 3:30PM (well, really like 3:44) I walked down the aisle and married my now-husband. This last month has flown by, between celebrating my Nephew’s 2nd birthday, Christmas, New Years, and busy time at work and in my marathon training.

But, of all the months of 2016, December was definitely my favorite, for the obvious reasons listed above, but also because it’s a time of reflection and a month full of hope and looking forward into the future with grand plans.

My favorite part of the end of a year and the start of the next is planning out our travel for the year. I tend to request all of my vacation days the first day I’m back in the office in January, because I plan the year out meticulously, and I try to plan trips around holiday weekends to get the most out of my time off.

This year, we’re going to Iceland, Costa Rica (honeymoon!), Vermont, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Canada (Nova Scotia), and we’re hoping to get a weekend in Virginia to visit friends, as well as some time back to Georgia to see Charlie’s family. For work, I’ll also be headed to Maryland, Illinois and Massachusetts (at least), and I’ve got a girl’s trip planned to Nashville with my friends whom I went to South America with in 2016.

An old photo from when I was in Iceland last, in May of 2010. I’m looking forward to getting back to revisit the major sights with my husband, who has never been, and to see some new things, too. Fingers crossed for an active cycle of the Aurora Borealis!!!

There are some other exciting personal and professional developments that I’ll share in this space through the year, as one of my goals for 2017 is to write more on my own time. I’m not a fan of making New Years resolutions, especially this year when I have so much on my plate, but I am a fan of looking forward with purpose!

2017, here we go!
